All songs are in English, except no. 7, and have keyboard accompaniment.

They are suitable for performance by choirs in church or concert hall.

Akin Euba, a composer and musicologist, comes from Nigeria and is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. He has published four books, including
Yoruba Drumming: The Dundun Tradition (Bayreuth African Studies Series, 1990). Bethlehem was premiered at the National Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1984. A CD recording of his other opera, Chaka, performed by the City of Birmingham Touring Opera, England, conducted by Simon Halsey, was released in 1999 by the Music Research Insitute (MRI 0001CD).
